Pointe Shoes Through The Years. As the Pointe Shoe developed, so did Ballet itself. Pointe shoes are special shoes worn by ballerinas.
Pointe shoes were conceived in response to the desire for dancers to appear weightless and sylph-like and have evolved to enable dancers to dance en pointe (on the tips of their toes) for extended periods of time. Some dancers can go through their first pair in a year and others only a day. Dancers say their pointe shoes are dead when they consider that the shoes have little to no life left in them.
Make use of a hammer to pound on the toe.
Starting to dance on pointes should not be taken for granted.
As the Pointe Shoe developed, so did Ballet itself. Some pointe shoes will only last a single performance in. I had deliberated for two years on what to do with them.
