Excellent walking shoe
I didn't realize until recently that Asics made 4E width running shoes. I've been using NB for 30+ years primarily because of the available widths. Over the past 5 years my NBs have seemed flimsier, providing less support and breaking down earlier than expected, so I was primed to try an alternative. I received these shoes yesterday and wore them around the house for the rest of the day. I took them for a 2 mile walk this morning with no adverse effects. Some things I noticed comparing to my NB 610s; The Asics feel much sturdier, despite the fact that they are no heavier than my NB, they provide better support. This is the first time I have bought a running shoe that was specifically designed to correct underpronation and I'm very pleased with the result. I feel much more stabilized when I walk. The Venture 5 also provides excellent cushioning. I'm very happy with these Asics. If that changes over the next year, I'll update my review.
Great shoes!
I've only been wearing these about a week, but so far, I love them. If that changes, I will update this review.
First, a little about me. I work in a retail setting on concrete floors. I have fairly low arches, almost flat feet. I have wide feet across the front as well. I also tend to supinate when I walk, which is a weird combination. Most people with low or no arches over-pronate. I also attend school full-time, and I'm an Outdoor Adventure major. I get into a lot of different terrain, and there is no shoe that is perfect for all of them.
Lately, my heels and lower back have been killing me from being on the concrete all day. I previously wore New Balance. The last pair I bought lasted about a month before the stitching split. Their quality has gone down quite a bit since they moved production outside of the US. I've always heard great things about Asics, so I decided to try these.
So far, my feet haven't hurt a bit while at work, my back pain is gone as well. That was my main goal, so mission accomplished. As a bonus, I've had these on while on a high ropes challenge course, and I can say the tread pattern works well for crossing steel cables 40 feet in the air. Seriously, I felt like was going to fall constantly when doing it in my New Balance shoes, but this gripped the cable much better. I've also had them on a three mile hike at a local state park, the trail has a lot of steep hills. They worked great for that too. I wouldn't use them to hike in on an actual backpacking trip, I've got boots with ankle support for that.
All in all, these are great shoes for the price. They're not the end all, be all of footwear, but they're comfortable and work well in many conditions.
My new favorite workout sneakers
Never tried Asics before since I was a tried and true believer that my usual brand was the best. The best until recent years when each new pair I bought did not feel exactly right in the foot bed. I have wide feet and have to wear a wide width (4E), so those out there can surmise what the brand is without me directly saying so. Not sure if I can here! I was increasingly put off by the quality of this brand and their lack of correct fit and decided it was time to see what else is out there for wide widths since my feet ached more and more wearing them, no matter what model I tried.
I came across this shoe and I will never look back. I wear them everyday to the gym and walking and running on the treadmill for an hour is a total pleasure. Walking around on pavement for shopping and running chores, these behave just the same, very comfortable with great arch support and cushioning. I've worn these everyday for a good 2 months now and look forward to wearing them for many more.
I'm a new fan of Asics thanks to these shoes and look forward to staying with this brand for good.
